Hooked on Fishing Club Malta (HOFC)

Hooked on Fishing Club Malta was established in November 2013 by Peter Paul Azzopardi, who envisioned creating a community for fishing enthusiasts. His idea quickly gained traction, leading to a club that fosters camaraderie, sportsmanship, and shared passion for fishing.

From its inception, the club attracted a significant number of anglers eager to join. The first year saw record membership numbers, and today, HOFC remains a close-knit family of 40 dedicated members who support and learn from one another. Despite being a relatively young club, HOFC has already competed internationally, participating in prestigious tournaments such as the 1st Trofeo Mediterraneano, 1st Trofeo d’Inverno, and 1st Trofeo Canna da Riva Mare Nostrum, achieving commendable results. Additionally, the club introduced members to freshwater trout fishing in Sicily, providing a unique experience for those involved.

Local Achievements & Competitions HOFC has explored various local fishing venues, some of which were new for club matches. These ventures, though risky, proved to be highly successful. The club has twice participated in the National Federation Sport Anglers competitions, leaving a strong mark. In the latest edition, HOFC nearly secured a clean sweep, with three out of four teams claiming top positions, including the 2017 Team Championship title. In individual rankings, the club also secured multiple spots among the top seven competitors.

Commitment to Members & Community HOFC prioritizes member satisfaction by continually introducing new initiatives. One such effort includes providing snacks for competitors, either prepared at the venue by marshals or prepped the night before. The club also organized a Memorial Match in honor of a beloved late member, affectionately known as ‘Coach.’

Beyond competitions, HOFC actively participates in charity events, whether organized by the club or in collaboration with other organizations. Giving back to the community is a fundamental value the club upholds.

Education & Conservation Seminars play a crucial role in HOFC, allowing members to exchange knowledge about various fishing techniques. The club takes pride in influencing other organizations to adopt responsible fishing practices, particularly Catch & Release, ensuring the conservation of marine life. HOFC continually seeks ways to minimize fish mortality and promote ethical fishing.

Becoming a Member Joining HOFC provides members with the opportunity to participate in diverse competitions, leagues, and even federation events. The club is more than just a competition organizer—it serves as a platform for discussions, educational seminars, and the overall development of anglers in the sport.

HOFC remains committed to growth, conservation, and fostering a strong fishing community, ensuring that members continue to enjoy and advance in the sport for years to come.
