Hooked on Fishing Club Malta was established in November 2013 when Peter Paul Azzopardi had been debating on the possibility of creating a club to attract fishing enthusiast to become members. This was successful with a year of good atmosphere & sportsmanship between members.
From the First year our Club kicked off you could see the vast interest from Anglers to join as we had record numbers registered as members for the first couple of years, we still do have a big family which is formed by its 40 members that altogether work to keep connected and learn from each other. Although it has only been a few years for this Club we have managed to compete abroad in the 1st Trofeo Mediterraneano, 1st Trofeo d Inverno & the 1st Trofeo Canna da Riva Mare Nostrum which we also achieved positive results. Also introduced fresh water fishing for Trout over in Sicily which was a new experience for all the anglers that took part.
Same goes for Sport Fishing locally we fished many different venues and some of them were new for club matches it was a gamble the Club's Committee took which paid off with these venues being a success. Since this Club formed we managed to enter twice in the National Federation Sport Anglers which also set a mark there too with the first time doing well & in the latest one we took part in it was almost a clean Sweep. We had 3 out of our 4 teams that entered making it as the Team Champions 2017 & also occupied the 2nd & 3rd team Overall, then in the individuals also managed spots out of the 7 available which is a very good result for the Club.
The club is always looking at ways to ensure that the members are happy to be at the club so always seeing what we can do for them. We initiated a snack for the competitors which are prepped at the venue when possible to do so by the Marshall's if not we prep something the night before which goes down well with the members.
Last year we also organised a Memorial Match in respect & honor of one of our members that unfortunately passed away last year. Who was loved by all members in the club in fact he was nick named 'Coach' . When it comes to Charities , we as a club always encourage to participate in these
events no matter if they are our own events or other Club's due to we believe that it is a the least one can do to help others.
Seminars are another thing the Club like to hold whenever possible, to share the Anglers Knowledge between all the club members which always attracts quite a few members as there is always space for each and every one to learn more about our Sport. It has also been a pleasure to see that others have chosen to apply regulations to their own clubs after seeing how we manage our business especially when it comes to Catch &
Release. The Club is constantly seeking options on how to avoid the kill rate of fish caught to enable them to be released back in the sea in the best condition possible. When it comes to this subject there are always ways to improve which as a Club that is what we strive for.
When becoming a member you will have the opportunity to compete in different fishing competitions / leagues / chance to fish in a federation.
The Club does not only organise fishing competitions / leagues but also to holds meetings
& discussions about fishing, seminars about different fishing techniques and much more.
There may be no better way to communicate what we do than through Videos. As you browse our site, take a few moments to let your eyes linger here, and see if you can get a feel for our passion for Sports fishing. Catch & Release
