1st Match HOFC Tubertini R18 Doubles League 2019

The HOFC Tubertini R18 Doubles League kicked off this morning held at Zonqor Point Marsascala, with the weather being favourable. Everyone was keen and excited for this first match.

Had to wait a little longer to start due to wanted to ensure that all members made it to the pegs drawn safely due to this venue is very rocky and slippery in some places.

It all started when the signal sounded at 7:25, all anglers started groundbaiting and eagerly waiting for the first casts. The fish were shy to bite for the first hour but soon you could see some bottom fish landed. Various techniques were being used to try and manage to hook fish due to strong currents. All anglers did their upmost especially when using the paternoster rigs due to currents were contributing to various snagging. Overall majority of the pegs managed to land fish considering the conditions. Apart from the sea state issues the actual weather was a nice one with it being dry & a sunny day too which at least made it a pleasant one.

The conditions were far from easy on the day with various pegs landing fish at different stages of the match there was no sign of a certain winner as there was a few pegs that landed either nice sized parrot fish or quite a few different smaller species. There were quite a few close weights at one point during the match it seemed that this was going to be between 2 specific pegs which where Sheldon / Lawrence & Michael / Martin until there was a few more pegs picking up the pace which were Hertian / Godfrey & John / Paul. When at the last hour of the match our new members Jake / Jean Claude started to land quite a few nice parrot fish in a row which saw them coming in with a chance to place in the overalls when compared to other pegs around.

Winners on the 1st Overall Sheldon Bouvett & Lawrence Pulis whom also won the Jackpot Prize of €419.00, by winning overall with peg number 2 being drawn as the jackpot peg. In 2nd place with only 20 grms less than the first place our new comers Jean Claude Tonna & Jake Seychell . In 3rd place we had Hertian Gauci & Godfrey Mifsud whom also were close. Section wins won by Marlon Tanti & Wayne Bugeja including Michael Godfrey & Martin Pace. Raffle winners Michael Godfrey & Carmel Spiteri kindly sponsored by Tubertini. Goes without saying a big well done to all that took part today for the great sportsmanship and the marshals for the snack and marshalling the match as this was not easy terrain to walk up and down in to ensure everything running smoothly.
